Calarasi County is one of the poorest in Romania. Because of this, many adults either leave the area or the country and try to find better paying jobs, or they stay and live off of government help. This creates a common situation where the children are either abandoned, or they are left with their grandparents, who do their best to raise them up. We have lived in Calarasi, we have worked in Calarasi, and we have been staying in very close touch with different leaders and communities from this county. They know them, and they really want to see these children prosper, in every area of their lives.
